Allahabad is one of the holiest city of India situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Understand

Allahabad is based at the confluence (sangam) of three rivers Ganges, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. It is also the site of biggest religious festival of the world called Kumbh Mela of Hindu religion which occurs every twelve years. The city's ancient name is Prayag which means confluence of rivers.

By train

Allahabad is situated on the trunk train route from New Delhi to Calcutta and from Mumbai to Calcutta albeit a small diversion, so it is well-connected by trains. Imprtant trains touching the city are Kolkata Rajdhani express, Prayagraj express and Mumbai Howrah mail.

By bus

Allahabad is well connected by buses to nearby cities and towns.
