Amakusa is a chain of islands off the west coast of Kumamoto in Japan.

Amakusa is located in west of Kumamoto and the area is 85.46 square meters. 4,676 people are living there and these comprise 1,884 families. Plus they have some special products which are Touseki- Amakusa, Takahamayaki and Fukurenngino-komori-manzyuu. The former two are a kind of pottery and the later is a Japanese sweet.

  • Beach, there are many beaches here. Shiratsuruhama has been selected as a nice beach 88 in Japan by Japanese government
  • Dolphin Watching, there is a tour for dolphin watching. The scheduled times are : 10:00 / 11:30 (morning) and 13:00 / 14:30 (afternoon). Minimum 2 people. If there are only two people, the costs are 3,000 yen per person. Information - 9:00AM-6:00PM. Time about 1 hour (need to reach there before 30 minutes. Call if you're late, please.) The basic fare is adult (more than 13 years old) 2,500 yen / child (pupil) 1,500 yen / kids (more 4 years old) 1,000 yen. If you join as a group which is more than 15 people, you get a group discount. Reservation: you need to make a reservation before 3 days and check whether the ship works or not. If case of bad weather, you might not go. The cancellation charge is 0 % until 5:00PM the day before, 50% on the day. There is an option of dolphin watching and a sea barbecue - 4,000 yen - 6,000 yen per person (You can eat the special sea food barbecue, Urchin-Don and freshly prepared boiled abalone and lobster). Also an option of dolphin watching and fishing - 4,000yen; not more than 5 people. It takes about 2 hours and you can bring them your house. Also an option of dolphin watching and staying at a tourist home - 10,000 - 15,000 yen. You can choose a tourist home or a Japanese inn.

Their festival, Amakusa Hondo Summer festival, will hold from July 31 to August 7.

  • Amakusakohaiya (July 31)
    The festival start dancing of kids. You can see their lovely dancing. It's start at evening.
  • The fireworks (July 31)
    It starts at 8:30. It will hold at Hondo port. That is a big fireworks which mark 1.5 Japanese foot so you must move and get a big impact. They also have beer garden. Plus you can watch the Japanese dancing before the acting before the audience at Hondo citizen center. Their expression must be more clear than doing on the street.
  • The eve of Amakusa haiya (August 6, it will hold from evening)
    They will dance with hoping safty festival in Hondo Suwa temple. After that, they will introduce dancing of the main group who are dance on the arcade to arouse the audience.
  • The general dancing of Amakusa Haiya on the street. (August 7. It starts at 7:30. It will hold in front of the city hole of Hondo to Amakusa Shinyou Kinko.)
    This is the biggest event in this festival. About 3500 people will dance. You can see their colorful clothes and powerful dancing. Plus you can also join the dancing free-for-all!
