Centred on the Auckland metropolitan area, the region includes ruggedly beautiful west coast beaches and harbors, the more sheltered inlets and beaches of the east coast, the islands of the Hauraki Gulf and the hiking trails of the native bush-clad Waitakere and Hunua ranges.
