Understand
When Cape Town was founded in 1652, the first settlers soon moved a bit inland to erect some farms for their own needs. When more and more settlers from Germany, France and the Netherlands came, they soon discovered that the hills in this region were ideal as vineyards. Some of them were experienced winemakers and they soon started to plant a few plants they brought over from Europe. This was the beginning of the South African wine industry and today South Africas wines are known and treasured all over the world.
