Get in

New Haven and Hartford both have airports. But, most people will find better prices to just come in at Boston or Newark.

Get around

Car is usually best. Each city/town is well connected. However, major metros are served by the CT transit: Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, Bristol, Stamford etc. Bridgeport is served by its own service.

Stay safe

Although Connecticut is well known for its affluence, many of the cities are of the country's most poor and dangerous. These cities include: Bridgeport, New Haven, and Hartford. While Bridgeport is often joked about in CT as the most crime ridden, Hartford actually has the worst crime rate- and is actually named as the 24th most dangerous city in the country. Last year it was 7th. Generally, the East end of Bridgeport, the North end of Hartford, and the Fair Haven district of New Haven are the spots to avoid. Last year, Stamford scored as one of the 25 safest cities in the U.S. in the same survey as Hartford.

Get out

New York City is a train ride away from New Haven-west on the coast. Train stops are available in New Haven, Milford, Bridgeport, Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, and several other towns along the coast. These rides are less expensive than Amtrak, and tickets can be bought after entrance to the train. Although not quite as accessible, Boston is the same distance as New York from central CT. Bus rides are readily available every hour from Hartford to New York and Boston, with a ticket costing about 27 dollars.
