Constanţa (prounounced Constantsa) is a coastal Black Sea town near souther Dobrogea in Romania. It is a great city to begin to explore the wonders of the Black Sea. A 2 hour trek northward brings you to the Danube Delta, another must see on any visit to the wonderful country of Romania.

Understand

Constanta was founded by the Romans as a port on the Black sea for trading with inland people by sailing along the Don river into what is, today, Russia, or Kazakhstan. The city is named after Constantia, sister of Constantine the Great (274-337). Throughout the centuries it was used as a coastal resort for retiring kings and emperors.

Constanta has a train- and busstation. There is a daily nightbus vv. Chisinau (Moldova).

The site of a great battle is marked by many massive pillars extending horizontally from the castle gates to the shores of the Black sea.
