Get in
From Santa Marta take the bus from the corner of calle 11 with carrera 11. It leaves when it is full and cost C$3.000. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the park entrance, it's about one hour. From the park entrance it's another 4 kilometres to Cañaveral. You can either walk, take van for C$1.500 or try to hitch a ride.
A taxi from Santa Marta might be a alternative if you are with 3 or 4 persons
With a big number of persons it might work out cheaper to rent a boat from Santa Marta or Taganga. You get dropped off at one of the beaches and this way you avoid the entrance fee.
Fees/Permits
The entrance fee is C$20.000 for foreigners and C$6.000 for Colombian citizens.
Officially a yellow fewer certificate is required and sometimes this it is enforced. This means if you don't bring you yellow fever certificate you might have to get the injection on the spot.
Get around
From Cañaveral it's a 45 minute walk to Arrecifes. Here are some restaurants and places to sleep. A hammock cost C$5.000 per night and a cabaña for 2 cost C$81.000. It prohibited to swim in the sea near Arrecifes due to the danger of strong riptides.
From Arrecifes it's a 15 minute walk to La Piscina. A reef in front of the coast forms a natural swimming pool. It's safe to swim here.
Another 15 minute walk is El Cabo. One of the most popular spots to stay the night. There are hammock for rent (also C$5.000) and a camping area. There is also a restaurant. There is only electricity few hours a day and the bathrooms are still under construction. At night it might get busy which takes away the place charm, but at daytime you find most beaches almost deserted.
A 45 minute uphill walk from El Cabo is El Pueblito. A archeological site simular to Ciudad Perdida only much smaller in size.
