Franschhoek (Afrikaans for 'French Corner') is a city in the Cape Winelands of South Africa.

Understand

Franschhoek was founded by French settlers (that is why the name), who came to plant some wine here. The Franschhoek wines are today one of the best in the world. So be sure to take a bottle or two from a local wine farm.

Get in

There is only one road to Franschhoek and no train service.

Get around

You can walk along the main street to see all the nice old houses and have a look at the shops and various restaurants.

See

Franschhoek is a place to relax. Stroll up or down the main street and take your time to have a look around.

Do

  • Rent a bike to go up and down the hills along the wine farms.
  • Go fishing to some of the lakes nearby

Buy

Eat & Drink

Along the main road are a number of very good restaurants.

Le Quartier Francais has recently been awarded the title 'Best Small Hotel in the World'!!! It is the perfect place to stay in the Cape Winelands.
