Qatzrin (Hebrew: קצרין) is the largest town in the Golan Heights, population approximately 7,000.

Understand
Qatzrin was established in 1977 as part of an Israeli program of cementing Jewish presence in the Golan Heights, considered essential to Israel's ongoing security and territorial integrity.
Get out
As the primary tourist centre in the Golan Heights, Qatzrin forms an ideal base for exploring nearby sites of interest, such as Gamla.

Understand
'Gamla' means a "camel" in Hebrew, the name of the hill top location clearly taking its name from a resemblance to a camel's hump.
NB: Gamla Nature Reserve is often closed to visitors weekdays on account of army exercises. Be sure to telephone the reserve before you set out to verify that it is open.
Get in
Turn off the Sea of Galilee road at Gamla junction and then take Route 869 to Daliyot junction, turning north after about 2 km. A signposted dirt road leads to the reserve.
