Get In
By Car
Hamilton lies on State Highway 1 and can be approched from Auckland in the north or from the south from Taupo, Rotorua or the Bay of Plenty.
By Plane
Hamilton International Airport, despite its name, generally caters for only domestic flights, although Freedom Air (http://www.freedomair.co.nz/) flies from here to Melbourne, Sydney, Gold Coast and Brisbane in Australia. There are regular flights to Auckland and Wellington as well as other New Zealand destinations.
The airport is about 10km out of town, so allow plenty of time for airport transfers. A taxi or shuttle bus service is available but a rental car might be cheaper.
During the winter the airport can be closed by fog in the morning.
