Get in

By car

Huntsville does not have a major interstate running through the city, but is accessible from nearby Interstate 65, approximately 20 miles west of downtown. An interstate spur, I-565, runs from I-65 eastward for 21 miles, to and through downtown Huntsville. Huntsville is roughly 90 minutes south of Nashville, TN; 90 minutes north of Birmingham, AL; and 90 minutes southwest of Chattanooga, TN.

By plane

Huntsville does have an international airport, located at Exit 7 off I-565. Admittedly, the only international flights to the airport are cargo planes, but passenger aircraft do fly to/from such cities as Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, Tampa, Cincinnati, Orlando, New York, Memphis, Detroit, and Charlotte. Most major air carriers, and several regional carriers, serve the airport.

By train

There is no passenger train service to Huntsville.

By bus

  • Greyhound. The depot is in downtown Huntsville.

Get around

Public transportation is not popular in Huntsville, but does exist. The city offers 10 different bus routes, all going to the city's new transportation hub on Church Street. The city also has a Tourist Trolley, which loops past most of the city's attractions and shopping areas. A one-way trip on the city bus system is $1.00 (1/2 off for kids under 6, students, and seniors). Double that price for the tourist trolley ($2.00), but you can ride all day.
