Kotor
From World travel guide
Kotor is a small town along the Adriatic coast in Montenegro. Like many of the cities along the coast, it was a former Venetian settlement and the architecture of the old town is very similar in style to Italy.

Get in
By bus
There is a bus that runs from Ulcinj to Herceg Novi that stops in Kotor or you can take a bus from Podgorica. If you are coming from Croatia it may be a bit more difficult as you will probably have to switch buses at the Montenegro-Croatia border.
Be aware that the Montengrin coast looks very short, but, because of its ruggedness, expect it to take almost an entire day to travel it by bus.
By air
There is an airport in Tivat which has direct flights from Belgrade.
Get around
The city is small enough that everything is within walking distance
See
The old town is spectacular. There is also a large fort San Giovanni located directly above the city that is worth the climb. If you continue further up the mountain you can get an excellent view of the bay.
- About 15km north of Kotor you will find two small churches located on islands in the middle of the bay. Taking either a combi or a bus out of the city you can take tours of the churches.
Do
In contract to Budva, Kotor does not have the 'carnival' atmosphere. Much of the old town has been filled up with clubs and bars for visiting tourists but not to a level that it disturbs the beauty of the city. It can get a bit loud at night though. You can spend many hours just getting lost among the small allies that make up the old town.
If you are interested in swimming don't come to Kotor. The Kotor bay is beautiful but also very placid. The city is a port and therefore the water is not great for swimming in. Go to Herceg Novi, Budva or one of the other actual coastal cities to swim.
You shouldn't miss some of the great events during the summer,Summer Carnival or Bokeljska Noc.
Buy
Eat
There is an excellent market just outside the old town walls where you can buy fresh fish, wine, slivovice, cheese, yogurt, fruit and vegetables among other things.
Drink
Sleep
Accommodation is cheap and plentiful in Kotor. During summer you can expect to pay about 10 EUR per person for accommodation at a private residence in the old town, and 5-10 EUR outside the old town and closer to beaches.
Get out
There is a good disco club, close to the old town, named "Secondo porto" and it is one of the biggests (maybe even the biggest) disco clubs in Balcans.
