Do

  • Old Town visit the old town where most of the wooden houses are still standing in a so typical grid pattern. You can imagine how people lived here 100 years ago easily.
  • Harbour The harbour and the park close to it is a perfect place to chill out in summertime, sitting on the lawn, eating cherries/strawberries and watching the things that happen.
  • Saimaa Channel half way to Imatra. This channel was build to connect the Saimaa to the Baltic Sea at the dawn of industrialisation in these remote parts of Finland. The Iron Curtain stopped traffic on the channel but in the recent years it has been reopened and is part of the international waterways. The channel itself connects to the Bay of Finland, on Russian territory, close to Viburg (Finn.Vipuri).

Eat

In the old town is an oldfashioned coffee house (I can't remember its name, but it sounded russian) that acts as a time machine. Their cake is delicious and the atmosphere authentic!
