Understand
Lisdoonvarna is most famous for its Matchmaker Festival which in past times was celebrated mainly to find a husband / wife. Today it still takes place in September although the motivation for going there might have changed. The town is also an excellent starting place for visiting the Burren or the Cliffs of Moher.

Get in
- Coming from Galway follow the N18 / N67 via Kinvarra to Ballyvaghan where you follow the N67 turning left. When the road gets steeper you should stop and look back from time to time: wonderful view over the valley of Ballyvaghan!
- Alternatively you can take the coast road from Ballyvaghan to Black Head and Fanore and then back to Lisdoonvarna, which is much longer, but on a clear day you have a marvellous view over Galway Bay.
- From Ennis: take the N67 to the north which leads you straight to Lisdoonvarna
