Understand

It is about half way between Los Angeles and San Diego and is best characterized as mind-numbing suburbia. Six-lane wide avenues and endless subdivisions of single-family houses are the norm. Incidentally, the proper name should be "Mission Vieja, as "mission" in Spanish is a feminine verb. The reason for the incorrect gender comes from the fact that the original name is "Rancho Mission Viejo", and the modifier "rancho" makes the whole name masculine.

Eat

  • Thainakorn Restaurant, 25482 Marguerite Pkwy. Authentic Thai food, a place where folks who are actually Thai go eat. The little sister of the real Thainakorn (in Buena Park) but great food nonetheless. It's the kind of place where you go for the food and bring your own customer service. For the uninitiated, chicken satay is a safe bet.
  • In-N-Out Burger, 28782 Camino Capistrano. All Californian readers will understand. Fresh, great, cheap food in a clean restaurant.
