New Orleans/Other parts of town
From World travel guide
In addition to the attractions in famous New Orleans neighborhoods like the French Quarter and Uptown detailed in other pages, the city has other sights of interest elsewhere within its boundaries.
[edit]
To see and do
- LongVue House and Gardens #7 Bamboo Road. Elegant mansion set in lush gardens is pretty and historic. In Western central New Orleans off Metairie Road, a short drive from Metarie Cemetery and Mid-City.
- Six Flags New Orleans 12301 Lake Forest Blvd in New Orleans East. Theme park, originally the rather cheaply built "Jazzland" in the far eastern suburbs of the city, was taken over by the national chain "Six Flags" which has made investments to towards bringing it up to the standards of their other parks. Despite a few half-hearted efforts at Louisiana and "Cajun" themed rides, there is little if anything distinctly New Orleans about the park. Families wishing to visit theme park rides while in town can find some here. Decimated by Hurricane Katrina, may be permanently closed.
- Little Vietnam is a mostly Vietnamese neighborhood in Eastern Orleans Parish; take Chef Menteur Highway past the urban area to out around Alcee Fortier Boulevard. There are an exotic collection of Vietnamese shops, groceries, bakeries, and restaurants. (Info in Vietnamese)
- Fort Pike while officially within the city limits is some 20 miles distant from the urban area, on Highway 90 towards Slidell, at a water pass into Lake Pontchartrain. Interesting well preserved old fort built in the 1820s, saw some minor action during the American Civil War.
