Pohjanmaa or in Swedish , is the area around Vaasa on the western coast of Finland. The majority of people here are swedish speaking although a few places are finnish speaking. The area is dominated by agrar culture in difference to the forestry dominated inland. Historically Öster Bottnia was hard hit in the end of 1800 when thousands of people left to emigrate to America.
