Understand

Pasto is a city with more than 400.000 inhabitants. the city is in the valley of Atriz, very near to the volcano Galeras.

Get in

There are frequent connection to Popayan. It is about 6 hours and the scenery on the way is amazing. There are busses to and from Ipiales about every twenty minutes and the journey is only two hours.

Get out

  • Laguna de La Cocha is one of Colombias biggest lake. The surrounding area is good for hiking and there are several small privately owned nature reserves around the lake which can be visited. The small island Corota is a nature reserve (entrance COP$500). Boots will take you there for around COP$ 15.000. Collectivos will bring you to the string of restaurants along the lake called El Puerto for around COP$3000 (one hour). Cabaña y restaurante Naturalia, tel:721 93 29, provide accommodation (COP$15.000 per person including a coffee with bread for breakfast), the meals there are also excellent.
