Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a United States National Lakeshore located near Traverse City in Northern Michigan. A short hike (2-3 minutes) from your car offers a stunning view of Lake Michigan from atop a 450 foot high sand dune which slopes steeply down to the shore. Climbing down is fun, but remember that you have to climb back up again!

- The welcome center contains helpful staff members as well as maps, geological information, an exhibit of local wildlife, and an informational film about the area and the folklore surroudning it.
- An old coast guard station with authentically dressed workers who explain what maritime life was like back in the 1800s. The exhibits contain antique boating equipment, photos, demonstrations, and restored buildings from the era.
- A scenic drive with photo, picnic, and hiking opportunities.
- Trails leading to the dunes and overlooking Lake Michigan.
