The Transylvanian Plateau

The Transylvanian Plateau (Template:Lang-ro, Template:Lang-hu) is a plateau in central Romania almost entirely surrounded by the Eastern, Southern and Romanian Western branches of the Carpathian Mountains. The Transylvanian Plateau, the Carpathian Mountains, and the lowlands in Western Romania are characterized by a continental climate. Temperature varies a great deal in the course of a year, with warm summers contrasted by very cold winters. Vast forests cover parts of the plateau and the mountains. The mountains ranging in height between 1,000 m to 2,000 m, with peaks over 2500 m (3,000 to 6,000 ft with peaks over 7600 ft) are all part of the Carpathian Mountains System.
