Uto (宇土) is in Kumamoto prefecture on the island of Kyushu, Japan.

Uto is a stop on the JR Kagoshima Line.

By train
From Hakata station in Fukuoka, take a Relay Tsubame or Ariake limited express train to Kumamoto and transfer to a Kagoshima line local train for the run to Uto (1 hour 40 minutes, ¥4090). Local trains from Fukuoka take about 2 1/2 hours at a cost of ¥2420 (at least one change of trains required).

There are famous and delicious foods in Uto city. Uto's mochi rice cake [1] is one of famous food, and we can buy the rice cake at Uto station for ¥300 yen per pack.
There is a shop of a shaved ice with syrup on the top, the shop is very famous.
