Vâlcan Mountains

The Vâlcan Mountains are a chain of mountains in the southern Carpathians in Romania. <ref>http://www.avj.ro/node/196092/environment</ref> They are part of the Retezat-Godeanu Mountains group. They run for approximately 54km (34mi) and the highest peak is 1946m (6384ft) high.<ref>Template:Cite book</ref> The mountains run the length of the Jiu Valley, and serve as a barrier to entry on the southern side of the valley.<ref>http://www.jiuvalley.com/engl/tourism/valcan.asp</ref>
