The Whitsunday Islands are a group of 74 islands that lie off the coast of Queensland, Australia and form part of the Great Barrier Reef.

Understand

The islands are so named because they were discovered by Captain Cook on Whitsunday, the seventh Sunday after Easter, on 4 June in 1770. This is not quite historically accurate however.
