Worms is a city in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany.

Understand

Worms is the oldest town in the whole of Germany. It also has a large Jewish history.

The church reformer Martin Luther professed his protestant faith in Worms in 1521 to Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms and refused to recant his beliefs, saying the famous words "Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen."

Walking is the best way to enjoy the historical center.

  • Romanesque cathedral, one of Germany's three "imperial cathedrals" on the Rhine (together with those in Mainz and Speyer), dating back to 600 AD.
  • Jewish Bath, Jewish Cemetery ("Heiliger Sand" - Holy Sand)

  • Nice historic Rhine bridge
  • The monument to Martin Luther and other church reformers.

Do

  • Cross the Rhine bridge for a walk through the green eastern banks. You can bath in the Rhine, too! The water quality is very good, now, there are even salmon back!
